Rave is alive and kicking down in Hackney Wick

Dutch born, Thoma Bulwer, launched Parasol Culture Records, a vinyl only imprint, in London several years ago. Already established as an in demand DJ, he can be found at Fabric playing sets alongside, partner in beats, Anna Wall. Produced, mixed, and mastered, by himself at his Hackney Wick base with Pops, this long player is the culmination of two years’ work. Inevitably, being confined to barracks during the pandemic, this is stripped of some of the label’s more club orientated output, and is shot through with a tinge of urban desolation. It could be filed alongside FYI Chris’s recent Earth Scum release with a similar minimal gnarly quality. That’s not to say some of these muscular broken beats, and pulsing techno treats, wouldn’t sound the business being pumped from any sound system, but it works here, gelling this eclectic and vital set together under one vibe. London rave is alive and kicking down in Hackney Wick.
