HERBERT POWELL ‘Here Is My Scheme, Here It Ends’

A blitzkrieg of Beefheartian splendour

Straying outside the margins into the left of leftfield, Herbert Powell are an odd proposition, rearing their heads again after disappearing off radar without producing an album. Formed some ten years ago, and becoming the stuff of underground legend, the Glaswegian quartet – Kieran Thomas, ‘Romeo’ Taylor Stewart, Kay Logan, and Billy Gaughan – went their separate ways and onto other projects. Now, unexpectedly, Here In My Scheme, Here It Ends arrives in all its avant-garde glory. It’s a blitzkrieg of Beefheartian splendour with clouds of swirling vocals circling layers of irresistible, nagging guitars. Time to welcome these outsiders back into the fray.
