LOULA YORKE ‘Florescence’

Melody & modulation in perfect synergy

Loula Yorke is a composer, sound artist, improviser, and one of the most singular and intriguing talents currently working in analogue electronica. We’ve been hooked since witnessing one of Yorke’s mesmerising hardware only sets.

Displaying the feel of free improv, the album opens with loops of scattered notes slowly coalescing into a maze of contrapuntal delights. Then, as the algorithms are plundered further, acid squelches and rubbery bass tones begin to move in mysteriously intriguing ways.

Petty Whin possesses a pliable, yet soporific, Boards Of Canada-esque groove. And, Sun Spurge is akin to a chamber quartet of electronica geeks reinterpreting a solstice ritual in the dead of winter.

As the title suggests, each of the eight tracks are named after wildflowers and represent the cycles of life in all its glory. Melody and modulation in perfect synergy.
