A debut album from womb dwelling Luca

What’s your earliest memory? Like us, it wasn’t making an album, we suspect. We wonder if Luca, the child of Psychic Ills bassist Elizabeth Hart and Lee Scratch Perry collaborator Iván Diaz Mathé, will remember making her first album. Luca’s unborn sounds were recorded with biosonic midi technology, which translated Luca’s in utero movements into sound. This was captured during bonding sessions, letting the vibrations flow with the midi devices attached to Elizabeth’s stomach. The results were then edited whist respecting Luca’s earliest messages.

Ambient music makers have long been fascinated with the rhythms of the body, but this is something new – please tell us if we’re wrong. Inevitably, you may think it strays into the new age zone, but overall the effect is rather mesmeric, and certainly, fascinating. The addition of broad strokes of synth and hallucinogenic decoration give the journey variety and zest, without a hint of this being a gimmick.
