Space trucking through galaxies of trip hop & r'n'b

This sensual slice of space age soul comes from MATTIE, a resident of Dallas, Texas, and owner of a lustrous alto. Teamed with the production of Black Taffy, the pair go space trucking through galaxies of trip hop, laced with slithers of r&b, played out on gaseous clouds of synth and woodwind. Themes of duality are explored partly via Mhuv, a character MATTIE uses to assist with narration. The magnetism grows with each wave of serenely choreographed melody, and just as importantly, the negative space is sculpted to perfection. Even so, as drawn as MATTIE is to Jupiter in an astrological sense, equal importance is given to the journey to find love closer to home: Sanctify Me opens with the acknowledgment, ‘I’ve never been comfortable in my own skin; always been running from the world I’m in’. Let’s hope their mission is back on again soon.
