Sebastian Bischoff takes us on a tour of his home town

Sebastian Bischoff aka Son Of Buzzi takes us on a trip round Zurich stopping off at some very cool venues.

EL LOKAL: For me, the first and therefore special music venue in Zurich is the El Lokal. When I moved to Zurich in 2010 it was my first port of call. Usually a bar and restaurant on a small island in the River Sihl. In the summer you sit outside with all sorts of people, from bankers to punks. But the concerts are more important to me: Steve Gunn, David Nance, Howe Gelb, Charlie Parr and also local bands like the great Nadja Zela, and many more. And, they even let me play there sometimes, as in Janaury together with Simone Romei.

El Lokal

WIM: Workshop For Improvised Music. A small room, near the nightlife area of Zurich. Every Friday is improvised music only. And I’ve seen a lot of fantastic concerts here, both local and international artists: Jason Kahn, Camila Nebbia, Julian Sartorius, Manuel Troller and Béatrice Graf.

Chris Pitsiokos, Jasper Stadhouders, Violeta Garcia, Tizia Zimmermann at Schönegg Variete

DAS INSTITUT: Concerts, films or both. Fantastically curated, it’s the place to go on Tuesdays if you’re into exceptional new music or great movies, and sometimes the movies are set to music by the artists: Jooklo Duo, Chris Corsano, John Butcher and Signe K. Emmeluth.

MOODS CLUB.: Jamie Branch`s Fly Or Die recorded their live album there and I was in the audience. Magical love.

And, there are other great locations in Zurich to discover great new music: Helsiniki Club, Bosch Bar, Schönegg Varieté, Kunstraum Walcheturm, Rote Fabrik and many more. Its a good place to be if you are into music.

HELEN ISLAND ‘last liasse’

Is this hypnagogic pop noir the first AI generated classic? Could the matrix create this level of lo-fi coolness? Unlikely, as helen island is the project of Paris-based Léopold Collin, who was previously active as Trigger Moral; therefore the...
