PATEN LOCKE ‘Americancer’

Paten Locke's beats & rhymes live on leaving a shining legacy for all to savour

Dusty beats and chopped rare vinyl may not hold the same kudos they once did, but like anything, the right ingredients in the right hands, can yield results to conquer the world. Paten Locke (MC/DJ/Beatmaker) had the necessary skills.

Irony outdid itself when Paten Locke conceived the idea for, and largely recorded, an album entitled Americancer in 2017: within two years Paten was diagnosed with stage-4 cancer and passed away in the fall of 2019.

Released in 2022, this was Paten Locke’s first full-length posthumous release, and encapsulates his wide ranging abilities as beatmaker and rhymer. He shifts his flows from showboating swagger to bars as philosopher with a social consciousness. Production has all the hallmarks of a Full Plate Records classic, pushing beats into an electrifying psych-spiced realm and locking onto a variety of grooves. A shining legacy for all to savour.

Give cancer the finger and get yourself some true hip hop.
