PREM ROCK ‘Load Bearing Crow’s Feet’

The man has a hip hop heart

As far as combos go, Backwoodz Studioz and Prem Rock is a mouth-watering one. This partnership has delivered results before – check the ShrapKnel album from last year. And, for us, you’re not going to get much sweeter than Prem Rock’s work with Philadelphia‘s Wrecking Crew: the man has a hip hop heart. As the title suggests here, getting older doesn’t come alone, and PR brings a more reflective view to some of the shadier sides of street culture and life’s hurdles. His righthand beatmeister, Willie Green, captures the mood, painting a rich terrain with washes of brass, guitar, and keys. Guests are numerous, and it’s a buzz to hear PR sparring with Curly Castro, Zilla Rock, and Henry Canyons in this setting. He’s not attempting to land a knock blow, but using his astute inquiring mind to take stock. Masterful.
