SIG NU GRIS ‘Threshold’

Headlong dive into a vortex of electronica

If the mixed emotions of a Covid-19 lockdown were conveyed in a continuous soundscape, we would be approaching the spectrum of colours presented on Threshold. The title itself gives an indication of the sense of impending rebirth and renewal running through this lush electronica.

The Melbourne based sound artist, Sig Nu Gris – aka Erin Hyde – became consumed by music making during the record breaking lockdowns Australia experienced. The intensity of the headlong dive into creativity, fuses with the anxiety of an unknown future on the spiralling vortex of Ardkore Mega Expansion. Voices can be detected trapped in the walls as the track pulses with the power of a steam train. The nerve shredding theme continues through 4/404040 creating a centrepiece around which break beats, and a sense of the bucolic emerge, as if yearning for nature and release. A masterful debut album.
