SON OF BUZZI ‘Die Hand Der Riesin’

High lonesome six string brilliance

Numerous six string slingers have fallen under the spell of the country blues luminaries, and the innovators who emerged in the 60s such as Fahey, Basho, and Kottke. Therefore, discovering some elbow room in the guitar soli genre can be troublesome. However, a unique voice will translate to an imminently listenable experience, and Sebastian Bischoff a.k.a. Son Of Buzzi, has unearthed a niche for his craft.

Recording live with no overdubs is brave, but for Die Hand Der Riesin, going without a safety net, enhances the high lonesome aesthetic with slow burn slides throwing arcs across the sky. Combined with field recordings, and exquisitely executed drones, the more primitive stylings of the fingerpicking are given a contemporary edge. There’s even an alien craft landing on Was Kommt Nach Dem Regen? But, surprisingly, that can’t disrupt the time stopping ambiance of this richly nuanced performance.
