SVRM ‘Червів майбутня здобич’

An atmospheric tempest of metal

Apart from a short and nuanced acoustic guitar passage from Cronin, all the credit for this momentous black metal goes to S., the sole member of svrm. The home town of the project, which has produced a slew of releases, is situated in Kharkiv, a city in the northeast of Ukraine currently under attack from the Russian army. It is hard to contemplate how desperate the situation must be there, but we find this atmospheric tempest of metal to be an emotional punch in the guts. And, wonderfully matched by the austere aesthetic across all social media, releases, as well as the poetry of the lyrics. Because, if Google translate can be trusted, the opening line of this latest mini opus is ‘I am the one who prays in the abyss’. Long live democracy in Ukraine.
